🔄 Torsen Torque-Sensing LSD
The Torsen (Torque-Sensing) differential uses worm and wheel gear sets to sense and respond to torque differences between axle shafts without any clutches, electronics, or fluid viscosity. Audi adopted it for the centre differential of the Quattro UR and RS2, providing seamless 50:50 torque split that can bias to 75:25 under slip. Subaru's STI uses a Torsen centre differential in the DCCD (Driver Controlled Centre Differential) system. Both brands independently converged on the same Gleason/Torsen patent.
