🛑 Scania Intarder Hydrodynamic Retarder
Scania's Intarder is a hydrodynamic retarder integrated into the gearbox output shaft — a supplementary braking system that uses oil resistance rather than friction to slow the vehicle without wearing brake pads. Retarders are essential for sustained Alpine descents with full loads. Scania's Intarder produces up to 3,500 Nm of retarding torque and is shared between the R-660 Super V8 and the Super 660S, both of which use the same GRS905R gearbox with Intarder module.
