🔧 Mazda 13B Wankel Rotary Engine
The Mazda 13B is a twin-rotor Wankel rotary engine used continuously from 1973 to 2012, underpinning every RX-7 generation and the RX-8. Its extreme power-to-weight ratio — under 130 kg for the twin-rotor unit — and compact dimensions make it irreplaceable. The 13B-REW twin-turbo unit in the RX-7 FD produces 255 hp; the RX-8's naturally aspirated Renesis variant spins to 9,000 rpm. No other manufacturer has commercially produced the rotary at this scale.
