🔧 Pontiac Big-Block V8 (389 / 400 / 421 / 455)

The Pontiac V8 engine family spans from the 287ci of 1955 to the 455ci of 1976, and it is the engine that created the muscle car. John Z. DeLorean's decision to fit the 389ci V8 into the mid-size Tempest in 1964 — creating the GTO — was the act that defined the genre. The 389, 400, 421, and 455 all share the same block bore spacing, 90° V-angle, and cylinder head bolt pattern. The GTO 1964 (389 Tri-Power), GTO Judge 1969 (400 or 455), and Trans Am 1977 (400 or 455) are products of the same Pontiac V8 engineering family.
