Getrag supplied the definitive 5-speed manual gearboxes for BMW's M-series engines from the E30 M3 through the E39 M5. The units are closely-ratio gearboxes with a mechanical limited-slip differential option and shift quality that defined the sports car standard of the era. The same fundamental design served the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 for touring car racing.
