Cannondale CAAD3
The CAAD3 (Cannondale Advanced Aluminium Design) proved that an aluminium frame could beat carbon in overall performance-per-dollar. Its oversized 7005 aluminium tubes were die-drawn in-house, producing a frame so stiff that riders described it as "explosive" in acceleration. Many riders preferred CAAD aluminium to far pricier carbon frames.
